On the 16th of May 2019 a training agreement was signed between Limbe Nautical Arts and Fisheries Institute(LINAFI) and NOIAA LTD, to train students from LINAFI on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).
After 3 successful STCW training sessions with NOIAA LTD, the Government of Cameroon has through its marine school, LINAFI, awarded another contract to NOIAA LTD to train its students on the STCW training course. This training is intended to ensure that seafarers are aware of the hazards of working on a vessel and can respond appropriately in an emergency.
NOIAA LTD delivered the 5-day STCW training course to the delegates of LINAFI at its training center in Cape Limboh, Cameroon. It was a mix of theoretical and practical sessions and the trainees were trained on basic fire fighting, elementary first aid, personal survival techniques, and personal safety and social responsibility. At the end of each module the attendees were assessed against the learning outcomes by using direct observation during practical sessions and oral or written assessment during theoretical sessions. The participants lauded with enthusiasm the skills and competence of NOIAA’s instructors who delivered the STCW training.
The STCW Training is required for seafarers employed or engaged in any activity on board ship at all levels such as deck and engine room rating qualifications, for most navigation, and all engineering certificates of competency. The course is for new entrants to the larger ships in the marine industry, or experienced mariners who have not previously taken any safety training, with the knowledge and skills to contain, report, and respond to a marine emergency, fight fires, abandon ship and understand the basics of workplace safety.
