CAMTEL Awards their Work and Rescue at Height Training Contract to NOIAA LTD, Middle East & Africa Operations
Workplace safety is a paramount concern for any organization, particularly when it comes to working at heights. Cameroon Telecommunication (CAMTEL), a leading telecommunications company in the Republic of Cameroon, recognized the importance of ensuring a safe working environment and sought to enhance their employees’ knowledge and skills in height safety. In collaboration with NOIAA LTD, a renowned On/offshore Maritime Safety Training and Accommodation Centre, CAMTEL organized a comprehensive Work and Rescue at Height training course at NOIAA’s training Centre. This provides insights into this remarkable initiative and its impact on promoting safety practices within CAMTEL.
Camtel was created in 1981 when the Directorate of Telecommunications (Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications) was transformed into a public limited company, with the addition of the state-owned company Intelcam, which was responsible for international telephone communications. The mobile telephone subsidiary, Camtel-Mobil, was sold to the telecommunications operator MTN in February 2000.
The Work and Rescue training course organized by CAMTEL and NOIAA LTD aimed to equip CAMTEL employees with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle height-related tasks safely and effectively. The course encompassed both theoretical and practical training sessions, ensuring a holistic learning experience.
The theoretical sessions covered essential concepts and principles of safety at heights, including hazard identification and risk assessment, the proper use of safety equipment, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards. These sessions were led by qualified and well experienced instructors from NOIAA LTD, who employed interactive teaching methodologies to engage participants effectively and facilitate knowledge retention.
The practical sessions were conducted in a simulated work environment, replicating real-life scenarios that employees might encounter when working at heights. Through hands-on exercises and simulations, participants had the opportunity to practice using safety equipment, setting up and securing anchor points, and performing rescue maneuvers. NOIAA On/offshore Maritime Safety Training and Accommodation Centre with its sophisticated training infrastructure, provided state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, allowing participants to experience realistic work conditions while maintaining a controlled and safe environment.
The collaborative Work and Rescue training course between CAMTEL and NOIAA yielded numerous benefits, contributing to the overall safety culture within CAMTEL. Here are the key outcomes
- Increased Awareness: The training course has significantly enhanced CAMTEL employees of awareness of potential hazards and risks associated with working at heights. Participants developed a deeper understanding of safety protocols and best practices, ensuring they can identify and mitigate risks in their everyday work.
- Confidence and Competence: Through practical training exercises, employees gained confidence and competence in using safety equipment and implementing proper rescue techniques. They were equipped with the skills to respond effectively in emergency situations, minimizing the potential for injuries or accidents.
- Compliance and Adherence: The training course ensured that CAMTEL employees were well-informed about industry regulations and safety standards. By instilling a culture of compliance within the company, employees became more conscious of their responsibilities and actively followed safety protocols, reducing the risk of non-compliance-related incidents.
More so, Mr. Abdou Daouda (CAMTEL Chief of staff) said he is so much impressed with what he had gained from the Work and Rescue at Height training offered by NOIAA. He said it is so wonderful. The staff of NOIAA are so welcoming and friendly. He said in his interview that NOIAA has all the qualified instructors and modern safety training facilities used for the training. He went ahead to say, he is convinced that improving health and safety in the workplace is the foundation of all progress in the social, economic, environmental and societal dimensions of our activities. And that we should be committed to prevent, control and manage risks of all kinds.
Mr. Suh Eric (CAMTEL Transmission and Intervention technician) appreciated the staff of NOIAA that they are so generous and welcoming. The entire environment is clean and calm. The instructors did their awesome best to realize this training. He went ahead to say that he wants to thank the management of CAMTEL for giving them the opportunity carryout this training in one of the prestigious safety training Centre like NOIAA. Also, he said that “the number of fatal accidents and deaths at the work place in the Telecom sector nowadays recognized by the Health Insurance per year is not acceptable. A culture of prevention must be disseminated from initial training, during continuing education and among company managers.” That is why CAMTEL has to choose NOIAA LTD, MEA operations to train his employees on Work and Rescue at Height.
To conclude, the collaborative work and rescue training course organized by CAMTEL and NOIAA LTD proved to be an invaluable initiative in heightening safety awareness and preparedness within the organization. By empowering employees with the necessary skills and knowledge, CAMTEL has taken significant strides towards creating a safe working environment for its staff. Such proactive measures contribute to the overall well-being of employees and reinforce CAMTEL’s commitment to prioritizing safety.
