The US Embassy, in collaboration with the National Offshore Institute of Australia and America, Limited (NOIAA LTD), recently conducted a comprehensive Forklift Operator Safety Training at NOIAA’s renowned On/Offshore Maritime Safety Training Centre. The objective of this program was to enhance the knowledge and skills of forklift operators, ensuring their safety and the safety of those around them in the workplace.

Forklift safety training is a critical aspect of workplace safety, especially when operating heavy machinery like forklifts. Recently, the US Embassy employees underwent forklift safety training to enhance their skills and knowledge in operating these machines safely. The importance of this training cannot be overstated, as it helps prevent accidents, injuries, and even fatalities in the workplace.

During the training, the trainers emphasized the importance of following safety protocols, such as wearing appropriate protective gear, conducting pre-operational checks, and being aware of the surroundings. They also highlighted the significance of proper forklift operation techniques to reduce the risk of accidents and damage to goods or equipment.

Also, Mr. Fai Frankline who is one of the trainees said in an interview that the training was so wonderful and enjoyable. He continued by saying that he hope this training continues like this all the time to keep them abreast with the daily happenings in the forklift sector.

Mr. Sidane Temgoua, a trainee of US Embassy confessed that he had learned a lot from this training. He had a limited knowledge about forklift but now he can do a maintenance, change oil etc. He is very impressed with what he has gained from the forklift training.

The trainers recommended that the employees always prioritize safety over speed, communicate effectively while working in a team, and never take shortcuts when operating forklifts. Additionally, they emphasized the need for continuous training and refresher courses to stay updated on the latest safety practices and regulations.

Overall, the forklift safety training provided by the US Embassy to its employees is crucial for ensuring a safe work environment and promoting a culture of safety consciousness among the staff.

Forklift safety training is crucial for workplace safety as it helps reduce the risk of accidents, injuries, and fatalities. Some common factors that contribute to forklift accidents include excessive speed, improper driving, poor communication, and inadequate servicing of the forklift. Without proper training, operators can fall from the forklift platform, be crushed by a tipping forklift, or cause accidents to nearby individuals.

Importance of forklift safety training includes reducing fatalities, identifying malfunctions, and promoting knowledge of best practices. Proper training equips operators with the necessary skills to handle forklifts safely, identify potential issues, and prevent accidents through adherence to best practices such as honking around corners, keeping loads elevated and upslope, and maintaining visibility at all times.

Mr. Rakesh Singh, who is the Training Manager of NOIAA LTD, Middle East & Africa Operations, said during the closing ceremony of the just ended Forklift Operator course at the US Embassy in Yaounde-Cameroon, he is very impress and happy with the outcome of the training because it was done following all the safety norms. He went further to say, he is happy because the trainees were very impressed with what they have gained from the training since they have been working as forklift operators for many years today.

Moreover, forklift safety training reduces costly downtime by preventing accidents that result in injuries, tip-overs, or material falls, leading to increased productivity and protection of goods. It also instills confidence in workers, as they feel more secure in their operations and workplaces. Investing in forklift safety training and regularly conducting refresher courses leads to a safer work environment, enhanced efficiency, and boosted morale among employees.
